Hublot is known for its extravagant designs and complications but there is this one movement that portrays the true DNA of the brand, the Unico calibre. A preposterous example of redundancy, Hublot took its avant-garde nature to a mechanical trip. The Unico calibre is unique as it is the first one to be equipped with a chronograph that operates with a reworked double clutch. A double-clutch operates more reliably and is less power-consuming than its less complicated counterpart. Apart from the clutch, the Unico calibre also features a modular escapement. The modular escapement consists of a balance wheel, an escape wheel, and the escapement itself. Functioning as one unit, the modular escapement can be removed easily with its other parts kept intact. This boils to easier and quicker servicing and removes the need for disassembling the whole movement. Now, in most the timepieces, the dial is home to a flyback chronograph and two chronograph sub-dials. At the 9 o’clock marker is the seconds chronograph and at the 3 o’clock is the 60-minute chronograph. These two sub-dials are placed over a skeleton dial donning the Unico movement. Apart from being a chronograph, the Big Bang Unico series is also home to the world’s first mechanical golf watch. Launched in 2017, the Big Bang Unico Golf is equipped with a hole counter at 9 o’clock, a shot counter at 3 o’clock, and a total scoreboard at the 6 o’clock marker.
